Caravan notes: what we're learning about building a community

A community is not a channel, it is a habit. Early notes on what keeps a group of builders showing up, and what quietly drives people away.

We call it the caravan because the point is to travel together. A few things we have noticed so far, offered as notes rather than rules.

People come for answers and stay for each other#

Someone joins because they are stuck. They stay because someone took a minute to help. Make the first helpful reply fast and kind, and the rest follows.

Small rituals beat big events#

A weekly "what are you building?" thread does more than a quarterly meetup. It is easy to join, easy to skim, and it makes progress visible.

Things that quietly drive people away#

  • Questions that sit unanswered for days.
  • Gatekeeping: "this has been asked before."
  • A channel for everything, so nothing is easy to find.
Rise together means nobody climbs alone.

What we want to try next#

Short build challenges with a clear finish line, and a habit of sharing what we shipped, even when it is small. If that sounds like your kind of group, come and say hello.
